Coach Kim Riley came to Austin, Texas 18 years ago to pursue her Masters in Education from Texas State University at San Marcos (formally Southwest Texas State University). She hails from Ithaca, NY where she grew up and attended Ithaca College. She played High School Tennis for Ithaca High School and The Westover School in Middlebury, CT., before playing at Ithaca College. While at Ithaca, she played #1 singles and #1 doubles for the Division III College. During her college years she coached the local high school J.V. tennis team and a local middle school volleyball team. She has taught tennis for the Cornell Sports School and for the Ithaca College Sports Camp. Before moving to Texas, she gave private instruction to both juniors and adults. From 2000-2004 she worked with the Westlake High School tennis program as their assistant coach before taking over the head duties in the fall of '04. During her tenure as assistant the tennis program garnished a 65-12 record as well as a berth to the State Final Four in the fall of 2003. The J.V. program had 2 undefeated seasons (Fall '01 and Fall '03) as well as numerous District Individual Championships. During her first 4 years as Head Coach with the Chaps, her teams went 97-9 and made STATE appearances all four years. These efforts culminated in a State semi-finalist team in "05 and State finalists teams in '04 and '06 and finally a Team Tennis State Championship in 2007. In the fall of 2009, Coach Riley passed the all-time win record in team tennis (previously held by Coach Ray Smith) with her 120th dual match win. Although she has taken many individual players to state and has been state semi-finalists and state finalists many times she has had individual state champions in 2007 in Boys' Doubles, 2010 in Boys' Singles, and in 2012, 2013, & 2014 in Mixed Doubles. In the spring of 2015 she had her first State Champion in Girls' Singles. In the spring of 2017 she had her 2nd boys' singles state champion and in 2018 her 2nd boys' doubles state champions. Coach Riley hit a milestone in the fall of 2018 with her 300th career win. In the fall of 2016 she made it back to the state tournament in Team Tennis for the fist time since the fall of 2007 (a 9 year absence). Currently, she has an overall record of 300-35. Coach Riley will begin her 19th season with the Chaps in August of 2018. Coach Riley lives with her husband Scott, daughter Erin (a WHS Chap), and son Jack (a WRMS wildcat) in Austin, TX.
